The Impact of the First 11 Months of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Vascular Patients ’ Care and Hospitalisation Rate in the Vascular Surgery Divisions of Southern Italy
Following the Italian government decree in March 2020, three month strict lockdown measures were implemented countrywide to avoid social contact. Hospital related routines were disrupted to prioritise the management of COVID-19 cases; in particular, outpatient and elective operations were postponed. Similar prevention and public health interventions were implemented from the second half of September 2020 up to the beginning of December 2020 in response to the second wave of the pandemic. Furthermore, except for situations of proven urgency, access to General Medicine in Southern Italy was negatively impacted during the loc...

Early Vascular Ageing in adolescents with migraine with aura: a community-based study
CONCLUSIONS: In line with previous large-scale studies in adults, we could not demonstrate relevant associations of migraine with aura with markers of arterial stiffness or subclinical atherosclerosis making early vascular ageing an unlikely pathophysiological link between migraine with aura and cardiovascular diseases.TRIAL REGISTRATION: First registered on ClinicalTrials.gov 29/04/2019 (NCT03929692).PMID:37528337 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-023-03409-2

Differences in hub and spoke vascular units practice during the novel Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) outbreak in Lombardy, Italy.
CONCLUSIONS: HH and SH ensured stackable results in patients with vascular disease during COVID-19 "phase 1". Despite this, poor outcomes were observed in both HH and SH cohorts, due to COVID-19 infection and its related pneumonia. PMID: 32964897 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The association of allergic asthma and carotid intima-media thickness in adolescence: data of the prospective early vascular ageing (EVA)-Tyrol cohort study
CONCLUSION: Allergic asthma in the youth is associated with an increased carotid intima-media thickness. Physicians should therefore be aware of allergic asthma as a potential cardiovascular risk factor in children and adolescents. Trial Registration Number The EVA-Tyrol Study has been retrospectively registered at clinicaltrials.gov under NCT03929692 since April 29, 2019.PMID:35042472 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-021-02452-1

Coming of Age of European Vascular Surgeons in Training: Celebrating 25  Years
During the spring of 1993 Professor William Paaske approached vascular specialist trainees in Denmark through Jes Sandermann with the idea of gathering all European trainees into an association. The thought was further explored during the 1993 European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) meeting in Barcelona. A newsletter was circulated to European trainees in vascular surgery. Trainees were called to meet and share information on their training. During the ESVS Meeting in Berlin on 5 September 1994, the European Association of Vascular Surgeons in Training (EAVST) was created and an executive committee (exco) was elected:...

The impact of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic outbreak on the vascular access team operations after conversion to COVID-19 dedicated hospital
CONCLUSIONS: The experience we gained will allow us to be more prepared in the future and our experience has highlighted that a structured Vascular Access Team is necessary to respond adequately to COVID-19 patients' needs, to ensure the effectiveness of the maneuver, to reduce complications and to avoid the waste of resources, always working in safe condition.PMID:33827318 | DOI:10.1177/11297298211005254
